Skukuza Rest Camp

Skukuza Rest Camp is located on the bank of the Sabie River and is Kruger’s Head Quarters.

The name "Skukuza" derived from a Shangaan tribal word meaning “he who sweeps clean” and was the name given by local inhabitants to the first official Chief Warden of Kruger National Park, Colonel James Stevenson-Hamilton.

It is home to the overall adminstration of Kruger Natoinal Park including; nature conservation, tourism, research, law enforcement and many other services associated with managing such a large conservation area.

It’s the largest camp in Kruger with a wide variety of accommodation and other facilities including an extensive gift  shop, fuel station and workshop, a museum and restaurant as well as a new safari lodge and conference centre.

There is a nearby 9 hole golf course should you feel the need to swing a club, ask us for more information, we can book non-members a round.

We use this camp primarily for its proximity to excellent game viewing areas and riverine habitats.  There is a substantial network of roads and tracks which are easily accessible from camp but knowing which areas to visit at the right time of the year is essential to ensure great game viewing.

There is good access to landscape viewing points, bird hides, picnic and "get-out" spots as well as locations known to us where we are most likely to find particular species of animals or birds.

Skukuza can be busy so it’s a compromise between popularity and game viewing opportunities.
