Mopani Rest Camp - Kruger National Park

Mopani Rest Camp

Just 10 km south of the Tropic of Capricorn and a little north from Shimuwini Private Bush Lodge is Mopani Rest Camp.  Situated in northern Kruger it’s a fairly large camp perched on top of a hill overlooking Pioneer Dam where the views are excellent and game and birdlife are abundant.

Again, the predominant habitat is Mopani bushveld but if you know where to look - and we do, then there are a number of excellent water-holes and a few hidden away streams which offer productive game viewing.  Further east from camp towards the Lebombo Mountains and the border with Mozambique the landscape opens up into more of a grass land environment and during the summer rainy season there are some unique marsh habitats.

There are great accessible game drives but again, if you’re not familiar with the area you’ll struggle to find wildlife.  Roan, Eland and Tsessebe antelope can be found in this region.

Mopani Rest Camp is ideally located for a few nights or a stop-over travelling up to or from the far North of Kruger.  As with Letaba Rest camp, we use Mopani camp as an overnight before crossing the border to Mozambique and onto the coast and beaches of the Indian Ocean.
